10th Anniversary

10 years, 12 boxes Click to enlarge. Contents 1 10th Anniversary Gifts 2 10th Anniversary Items 3 Fireworks Shows 4 See Also On September 25, 2007 , Ultima Online celebrated its 10th year of providing quality massively-multiplayer online entertainment. While offical web site descriptions differed slightly from official press releases , the event was celebrated with the following: Return to Brittania program (former players could log into KR , free until October 9, 2007); New Items for current players; and New rewards for PvE combat in the Anti-Virtue Dungeons . 10th Anniversary Gifts Publish 47 included the distribution of a gift box for the 10th Anniversary. It was given to each and every character that was at least 30 days old by October 25, one month after the official 10th Anniversary. This gift box included the following: 1 Gift Box entitled " Happy 10th Anniversary! " 2 Heritage Tokens 1 10th Anniversary Fireworks Wand 10th Anniversary Items In addition to the 10th Anniversary gift box , Publish 47 also included a new system wherein special items began dropping in the eight original anti-virtue legacy dungeons . This new system functions the same way as the Doom Gauntlet system works; namely that there is a small chance for one of the items to drop directly into your backpack with each monster killed, and that the percentage chance for this to occur is based directly on the fame of the creature killed. The new anti-virtue dungeon drop system is also similiar to the Treasures of Tokuno system in that a player's base chance of receiving an item drop is augmented by a small amount for each monster killed, this amount also being based on the fame of the creature killed, with this augmented chance resetting to zero each time an item successfully drops. It has been stated that not only will this be a permanent system, but that the list of items that drop will be extended over time, with some items being occasionally rotated out of circulation. Currently, the items that drop include: Katrina's Crook Jaana's Staff Dragon's End Sentinel's Guard Lord Blackthorn's Exemplar Ankh Pendant 10th Anniversary Sculpture A Map of the Known World Virtue Armor Set Pieces Helm of Spirituality Gorget of Honesty Breastplate of Justice Legs of Honor Arms of Compassion Gauntlets of Valor Sollerets of Sacrifice Fireworks Shows On September 26, 2007, the following announcement was posted on an Ultima Online forum : Happy 10th Anniversary UO! On behalf of the entire team, we'd like to extend an invitation to our players to watch the commemorative fireworks on your shard! Each shard will have a designated area where both 2D and KR fireworks will be playing throughout the next day. A server wide message will go out on your shard which marks the moment the celebration begins! The KR fireworks are on a five minute timer, but you can restart them at any time by saying: START out loud in the area. The 2D ones only require people to be nearby. Locations: * Atlantic, Siege: West Britain Bank * Everyone else: Luna Stay tuned for your server annoucement! On September 25, 2008 , Ultima Online celebrated its 11th year of providing quality massively-multiplayer online entertainment. Surprisingly, there were no in-game events, such as fireworks or quests, or even the customary anniversary gifts to commemorate the date like past anniversaries such as specially inscribed cakes or items. The only 11th Anniversary-related item was a short announcement on UO.com by Ultima Online Community Coordinator Jeremy : "Happy 11th Anniversary! Jeremy Dalberg 25 Sep 2008 10:48:19 Eleven years ago today, Ultima Online was released to an unwitting public. Raise your glass in toast to the world we all love so much and all the hardy adventurers who bring it to life!" See Also 6th Anniversary 9th Anniversary 10th Anniversary

5th Anniversary

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Still occasionally found on Ebay. Still occasionally found on Ebay. On September 25, 2002, Ultima Online celebrated its fifth year of operation. The holiday was accompanied by the release of both in-game and IRL items. Contents 1 5th Anniversary Cakes 2 Virtual Items 3 IRL Anniversary Items 4 Ultima Online: Axe Marks the Spot 5 Notes 6 See Also 5th Anniversary Cakes The 5th Anniversary decorative cakes came in a variety of colors. In a post on the now-defunct official message board, developer Vex explained how each color was selected: Regarding cake color, there are in fact two factors involved: fame and karma . The cake hues available are the same ones in a normal dye tub . First, a random column from the dye tub colors is chosen -- there are 20 to choose from. There is an even chance of any of those 20 hues. Next, the character's karma is factored in. The karma scale is divided into ten rows, each corresponding to a row on the dye tub color selector. This is the hue saturation. The lower the character's karma, the lower the row selected, and the more the hue is blended with gray. Only characters with the absolutely worst level of karma get the grey cakes, and only characters with the absolutely highest level of karma get the most saturated hues. Finally, the fame level is factored in. There are five levels of brightness, corresponding to the level controlled by the brightness slider on the hue selector. At the low end of this scale (corresponding to lack of fame, for cake color selection), the brightness level and contrast of the hue is low. These hues have a great deal of color but some of the detail of the image is lost. At the other end of the scale, the hue is high-contrast and is also blended with a bit of white to further increase brightness. On the cakes, these hues come out looking pastel and best show off the details of the cake graphic. Virtual Items 5th Anniversary Cake IRL Anniversary Items an "official" promotional t-shirt; a free downloadable mini-game, Ultima Online: Axe Marks the Spot ; 50% off the retail price of Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Revenge at authorized dealers; and Japanese players could purchase an official 5th anniversary atlas (187 pages, ISBN 978-4-7577-1499-1 ). Throughout Malas are 9 secret locations. These locations are only reachable by marking a rune in one of the hidden pouches scattered throughout the land. The pouch locations are given below. To mark a rune, find and open one of the hidden pouches. They are often only visible using the "circle of transparency." Placing and retrieving the rune from the pouch will mark it. You are then able to Recall to the given location. 130o 10'N, 20o 27'E Location one: Located behind a tree, on the North side of the Northern Crags , this pouch can be found. The rune will take you to the Broken Mountains. 114o 27'N, 60o 11'E Location two: This pouch can be found just above the Grimswind Ruins , behind the first or second tree. The rune will take you to the small floating island, North of the Northern Crags . 125o 23'N, 21o 22'W Location three: is located inside the Northern Orc Outpost . Look for the pouch just below the bubbling cauldron. The rune will take you to the Broken Mountains. 71o 22'N, 32o 20'W Location four: is located a few steps away from the Albino Tree . The tree can be found West of the Bridge of the Divide . The rune will take you to the Broken Mountains. 16o 41'N, 18o 29'W Location five: This hidden pouch can be found behind the bar at Hanse's Hostel . The hostel is found along the Luna to Umbra road. This pouch and at times the others is locked and trapped. The rune will take you to the Broken Mountains. 96o 9'N, 8o 34'W Location six: is found just East of the Crystal Cave , in the forests of the Crystal Fens . Look among the crystals near the base of the mountain. The rune will take you to the Southern edge of the Broken Mountains. 94o 44'N, 26o 9'W Location seven: is found in the basement of the S/W battlement, that surrounds the city of Luna . To get onto the city walls, find the stables in the N/E corner, and climb the stairs. The rune will take you to the tip of the Broken Mountains. 126o 12'N, 65o 8'W Location eight: Rather than a pouch, this container is a skeleton found in the Dungeon Doom . Find the room where the sorceress Victoria resides. At the foot of the candelabra, on a Northern wall is the bone container. The rune will take you to the Dry Highlands. 44o 49'N, 0o 46'W Location nine: is found North of the large abandoned orc fort, in the Living Forest . Look for the giant fairie tree, and then turn a bit South. This pouch will mark the rune, but the rune will not work. However, there is a 9th hidden location in Malas. It is found in the Northern Crags , above the Crystal Cave. Look for this marked rune in a library near you. Rune Destinations

Located in the north east corner of the Blighted Grove , Abscess is one of the nastiest of the ML monsters. This creature has a breath attack that is HP based; the lower its health, the weaker it will hit you. As a multiheaded creature, each head breathes a different damage type at up to 5 separate targets. At full health, Abscess' breath attack is quite lethal, usually dealing a 1 hit kill. Abyssmal Horror

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Like many of the other denizens of Dungeon Doom , the Abyssmal Horror is an oddity in both form and demeanor. Skulking about on lanky limbs, it lurks about the second level of the dungeon, waiting for those brave (or foolish) enough to wander into its lair. It's quick to attack any adventurers that it encounters with its brute strength and high-level magic spells. Successful attacks could render its victim unable to heal for a period of time, so stay on your toes when battling this vicious creature. While its skin affords it complete immunity to fire-based attacks and a fair amount of resistance to energy and magic, the strength of steel can penetrate its defenses. If a warrior has a weapon that does not do physical, casting Consecrate Weapon is a good idea. Mages can do ~100 damage with every Earthquake . Even better when multiple are within range. The Abyssmal Horror will also occasionally summon a circle of candles, causing those caught within it to be unable to run. This can be resisted with the Resisting Spells skill. Adrian the Glorious Lord

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Adrian the Glorious Lord with the Ensorcled Wisp ( EC ) Adrian the Glorious Lord ( EC ) Adrian the Glorious Lord is the good twin brother of Andros the Dread Lord who can be found in the final level of the dungeon Despise : "Two brothers, both well learned in the arcane arts, lusted for the same woman. She was but a simple maiden, tending to the ranches dotting Britannian countryside, her beauty, however, was without equal. Both men knew should they compete against one another, neither would succeed in bearing fruit with such beauty. So the brothers conspired, and began to corrupt the very fabric of her love. Together the brothers conjured a powerful Polymorph spell to transfigure themselves into the perfect man for the maiden to love. For months they would deceive her love, the maiden unknowingly accomplice to a corrupt triangle. Finally, she gave birth to twins. Despite the powerful magics the brothers used to pursue their ruse, the mother's love for her children was too great and the brother's trickery was uncovered. Outraged at such a thing the maiden cast away her lovers forever, cursing them to the Abyss . As the twins grew and their mother aged they would learn of her hate towards their fathers. As each twin grew to adulthood and became their own man, they would blame the other for their own father's fate, and come to despise one another. Already practiced in their fathers' art and fully possessing their arcane talent the twins began bartering with the mysterious Wisps. Eventually each convinced the Wisps to conjure an army with which to destroy the other. Their mother, bearing witness to this feud and knowing the dangers of the likely outcome, pleaded with her sons to reconcile. Corrupt with rage, there was no foregoing their anger and so she mediated at the Shrine of Compassion , hoping in her heart of hearts for her sons to end the feud. As she meditated a mysterious Wisp appeared to her and in an instant an eternal pact was struck. The mother's love was enough to save Britannia from impending war, but her sons, filled with despise would be cast there forever..." Aggressors

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Although it is not illegal to attack criminals and murderers, it is also not illegal for unsavory types to defend themselves against attacks. The first person to attack (even if the blow does not land) is considered the aggressor in that combat, and any attacked party can defend himself against any aggressor without fear of Karma repercussions. Thus, if you are attacked by Sheila the Murderer and she kills you, her Karma falls, and you can report your murder. However, if you attack her and she kills you, you cannot report the murder, because you were the aggressor. Combat is considered to last until one of the opponents dies, or until about two minutes after the last blow. If you break off combat for more than two minutes, neither party is considered the aggressor until one or the other launches a new attack.

Air Elemental

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Tales of this creature might be pried from between the lips of those who have encountered it deep within the dungeon Shame, or venturing across its native plains and mountains. The Air Elemental is awesome—and perhaps deceptive—in its beauty, as it takes the form of a luminous blue man. It moves with such speed as could hardly be imagined; no sooner is it seen in the distance before it bears down on the unfortunate adventurer. The blue vapor it exudes about its form is but an indication of the foul winds that it uses to fell its opponents. Even those who flee this creature may be hit with an unseen weapon that the creature has thrown. Although the naturally occurring Air Elemental is the strongest, such creatures can be summoned at the behest of the strongest of mages. Be warned, ye Adventurers who make your way through the plains and mountains of Britannia! Prepare yourselves well to meet one of these creatures, should you feel the sting of hot wind and grit come from nowhere as you travel! Alligator

These great lizards can far surpass a man in length and weight, and even those of average size are bigger than a large dog. Because of their size, they are often regarded by the ignorant as unnatural creatures, or even dragon-spawn. Such talk is idle superstition. The alligator dwells in swamps and bogs, and one at rest can easily be mistaken for a floating log. Alligators fear humans, but may attack if surprised or angered. Ancient Citadel First Seen: April 2001 Coordinates: 93o41'N 13o38'E Facet: Ilshenar The Ancient Citadel is not to be confused with the Tokuno Islands Citadel , which is home to the Peerless Travesty and located on the eastern shore of Isamu-Jima . This Ancient Citadel is on the facet of Ilshenar; the closest Moongates is Compassion . At roughly nine rooms in total, the Ancient Citadel is not a dungeon proper. Most characters that have completed the Friends of the Library quest have, at least, run past the place. It appears to have once been home to a wealthy alchemist . Along with the two libraries, the master bedroom is still stocked with full jars and the third floor workshop contains lots of glassblown equipment. Other have posited that the building was a weigh station on some great trade route. Proponents of the latter theorem note the barracks on the second floor. To date, the jury is still out. Ancient Hammer

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
A hammer shown along with other BOD rewards. An Ancient Hammer is a enchanted Smith's Hammer for use by Blacksmiths , acquired as BOD rewards . It comes in a variety of Blacksmity bonus intensities (+10, +15, +30, +60). Simply stated, a blacksmith with 70 skill points who equips an Ancient Hammer +30 can craft items as if he or she were a Grandmaster blacksmith. Ancient Hammers are not permanent tools; each comes with a set number of uses. Every attempt to craft smith type items while holding one removes one charge (regardless of whether the hammer itself was used directly). The hammers will break, or disappear, at 0 charges. Their effects are not limited by your skill cap. Equipping a +60 hammer at 120 skill will bring you up to a massive total of 180 points. See Also Hammer of Hephaestus

Ancient Lair

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Ancient Lair First Seen: April 2001 Coordinates: 98° 31' N, 27° 4' E Facet: Ilshenar The Ancient Lair , also known as the Volcanic Lair, is a single level dungeon that is located in Central Ilshenar . Its closest moongate is Compassion , but Honor will get you there as well. All of the creatures in Ilshenar have a 1-in-20 chance of being a Paragon version. A word to the wise is sufficient. Entrance Teleport is the only way in. Click to Enlarge There are a few low-level creatures that mill about the entrance to the Lair, including Imps and Earth Elementals . The Lair has a spiral approach that climbs a volcanic cinder cone; it is accessed from the east. Like the dungeon Wind , not just anyone can wander inside. The entrance is gained by teleporting across the lava pool at the top of the volcano to a series of 3 rocks. Once you have neared the dungeon entrance, you must drop down onto the ledge in front of the cave opening. Dungeon Proper Loosely described, there are five rooms in the Ancient Lair, which is probably short for Ancient Wyrm Lair. A single Ancient Wyrm resides within. The creatures of the Lair are: an Ancient Wyrm Fire Elemental Lava Lizard Notes Look for the Wyrm Nest; it contains an egg! There are better places to fight Fire Elementals. Ancient Lich

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
In ancient times, Kaltivel, Anshu, Maliel, Baratoz, and Almonjin, were formerly the five most dreadful necromancers in the cabal who worshipped in Khaldun . They are now ressurected as fearsomely powerful liches in order to defend their underground temple from archaelogists and other adventurers who seek to claim its riches. Ancient Liches were originally found only in the dungeon of Khaldun , located in the Lost Lands of Felucca . In more recent times, they have started to spawn in the hidden area of the dungeon, under the Ethereal Fortress . ( Ilshenar ). Paragon forms of the Ancient Lich also spawn there. Ancient Wyrm

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Just run away. The eldest of the Draconian race are rarely seen by any other than drake eyes. Ancient in origin, the wizened Elder is said to long for the days when the reptile was the guardian of the land now known as Britannia. Patience is not a virtue of the Elder Wyrm, and disturbing one may lead to a quick death. Death, of course, being the quickest way for these ancient ones to be rid of the intruder and get back to their studies. Ancient texts concerning the draconian race tell of Ahzimas, a wyrm soothsayer of great magical power who claimed reptilian rule would not return to the land until humans and reptiles lived as one. This one statement has apparently been a very heated topic of discussion among draconian scholars. Some believe it means the two races should live in peace, others believe it means that one race must be eradicated. Even stranger, there are those that believe a physical merging of the two races is what was foretold. It is believed that all Wyrms are working toward this goal. How they will reach it is known only to them. (The attributes of the Ancient Wyrm were increased in 08. The symbol: +/- shows an attribute that was changed, and reflects a current in game Wyrm.) Animal Lore

Animal Lore affects your ability to control a tamed creature , and also improves the amount of damage you can heal via the Veterinary skill. Using the skill directly on a tamed creature shows you a listing of its stats, resists, skills and elemental damage distribution. At 100 skill points you may target untamed animals as well, and at 110 you may view information about untamed monsters . Animal Lore also counts towards your total stable slot limit. You can gain from repeating upon the same creature. Passive Animal Lore can also be raised by using the Animal Taming and Veterinary skills. Using veterinary on a tamed pet and getting a passive gain is the preferred method of training. Once you get one passive gain, lock Veterinary and keep vetting your pet for endless gains. Animal Taming

Contents 1 Training 2 Do's and Don'ts 3 Pet Skills and Stats 4 See Also 5 References “What is that monster blocking the front door?” “It’s a dragon. It followed me home. Can I keep it?” To tame a beast to accept you as master requires patience, nerve and a power of will. The rewards of studying Animal Taming are considered by some to be well worth the time invested. Tamers have long-been considered extremely useful and versatile in fighting monsters and, to a lesser extent, players as well. Your taming skill (along with Animal Lore ) determines the odds of taming a given creature then controlling it. It's furthermore required in order to bond with certain creatures, and also plays a hand in determining your stable slot limit . In order to tame a creature you must be standing within three tiles of it with no obstructions, then target it with the skill. Once taming has begun you may stray anywhere up to ten tiles away from the target though if it loses sight of you or is injured in any way the attempt will cease. After a few seconds you'll be notified of either your success or failure. While most animals are non-hostile and can be tamed at any time, most taming attempts against a monster will instantly fail. In this case there's no wait time before you can try again so it's best to set a macro and use this over and over as fast as you can until you successfully start the taming process. Veterinary is a near essential skill for serious tamers in that it is the only method available for resurrecting dead pets. See Pet Training for more information on training your pets. See the Pets section for more detailed information on your pets and how to control them. See Pet Guide for a comparison of high level hunting pets. See the Tameables page for a list of tameable creatures. Training Training taming is a very slow process in that it can only be improved through active use. It takes several seconds to attempt to tame a creature, and when you succeed you cannot gain off that creature again. In most cases it is best to take this as a starting skill for your character should you wish to use it. In order to increase the spawn rate of new targets you should release and then kill each as you progress. You may find keeping some of them under you control to help cull the others helps matters. 0 - 30 : Train at NPC Stable Master 30 - 45 : Cows and Sheep Delucia is a good spot 45 - 60 : Hinds and Timber Wolves Many wolves spawn near the Huntsman . 60 - 75 : Walrus and Polar Bears Dagger Isle is the best place to tame both of these animals . 75 - 85 : Snow Leopards and Panthers Stay at Dagger Isle , but concentrate on Snow Leopards. 85 - 100 : Great Harts and White Wolves Healer's Grove , north of the Sacrifice Moongate in Ilshenar , is a great place to go. Or you can try just outside of Delucia 100 - 120 : Ridgebacks and Bulls The plains of Central Ilshenar , north of Blackthorn's Castle (West of the Compassion Moongate through the mountains), is the best place to find Ridgebacks . A better spot is in the savage camp just south of castle. Put on a dose of Tribal Paint and you will find a pen in the bottom of the camp. Two spawn there non-stop. Tame one kill it and another respawn in about 15 seconds. In this spot you won't have to deal with any of the annoying spawn that might interrupt your taming efforts. 90-120 : Cast Combat Training , target a pet, ignore the pop up menu, repeat. Requires Skill Mastery for Animal Taming. Do's and Don'ts Have a special armor set for each of the taming targets. I got an armor out of stuff which was not good enough to sale them. Wear eater armor. For example use cold+energy+damage eater for Cu Sidhe . Fire+Physical+damage+kinetic for Greater Dragon . Don't wear Reflect Physical Damage armor parts. Because if the animal gets hurt, it will disturb your taming attempt. Avoid insured items with the prized attribute. Cause the insurance cost will grow. The Armor should have Hit Point Increase and Hit Point Regeneration on it. Don't paralyze-tame pets which can have GM+ skill values. It will decrease the result skills maximum. Attack the pets to lower their HP's, because they are getting slower then. Have Orange Petals in your bag. They are cheaper than insurance costs. Pet Skills and Stats EVERYTHING BELOW IS OLD INFORMATION ----------------------------------------- After the creature has been tamed, it will has half of its HP as it were wild. Its skills cap will decrease 10% if the skill is higher than 100 before taming. If you use the paralyze taming style it will loose more than 10%. Each skill below 100 and above 0 can be trained up to 100 or to the new cap. If a bounded pet will be ressed, it may loose some of its current skill points. But you can train it up again. Ankh

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
An Ankh is a central image in Ultima lore and typically represents the Virtues collectively. It is also the symbol for the Virtue of Spirituality . Ankhs are similar in appearance to a Christian cross, but notably looped on top. Ankhs can be found in and on many items, buildings and locations, but are especially significant at Shrines . At Shrines, such as shown in the picture below from Luna , you may Lock/Unlock Your Karma , Tithe Gold , or be Resurrected by using the contextual menu on the Ankh. Origin adapted the symbol into the lore of Ultima beginning with the solo-player Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar game. A metallic Ankh was included with the map and instruction manuals. On-screen, the Ankh was used in recording progress in obtaining avatarhood in the 8 Virtues. Once a Virtue was internalized and then meditated upon at the corresponding shrine, one eigth of an Ankh lighted-up in the statistics pannel. When Avatarhood was achieved in all eight virtues, then a complete Ankh was displayed. If a virtue was transgressed against, then its portion of the icon blinked out. Anselm the Paladin

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Anselm can be found in the Mess Hall on the Northeast side of Trinsic (Coordinates: 92o 32'S 42o 53'E). He is awaiting the arrival of Lady Aileen. Keywords Aileen - Ah, yes! She asked me to gather some information for her about Council and Soldier Brain. Council - There is a lot of tension and suspicion between Council and the Royal Guards. Tension - There was always a certain distance due to hierarchy, but now it's greater than ever. Suspicion - Since the Brian incident, people see traitors everywhere. Sadly, history proved it to be true. History - You know it all too well, seeing how you are investigating the Royal Council murders. Brian - He was the polite, quiet type. No one would have suspected him: in other words, the perfect mole. Mole - He was spying on us on behalf of the FOA. His team had their HQ near the Castle. FOA - The Followers of Armageddon, a group of lunatics, if you ask me! Team - They were a little cell operating from a small farmhouse west for Britain Castle by the mountains. Ant Lion

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Ant Lions are usually found in the dens and tunnels of the Solen. They are the result of a failed spell that was cast by the Meer. With a set of large mandibles and a heavily plated thorax, these creatures are quite a fearsome sight. Their powerful limbs aid them in tunneling beneath the ground—a common tactic they use when faced with an attacker—and a set of poison sacs hidden beneath their heads affords them the ability to spit toxins over a great distance. Arcane Daemon

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
2D Arcane Daemon These massive creatures are that of which legends are made. Arcane Daemons stand on two legs, as any human might do, but bear more resemblance to the most foul creatures that might inhabit the Underworld. Their red-hued bodies are often tattooed with ornate sigils and runes that cover them overall. Their forms are hunched and bent at the knees and hocks like a beast, and they stand on a beast’s cloven hooves. Black eyes stare malevolently from faces that resemble that of a bull, if it were possible for a bull to wear an evil expression. The large horns on their heads do little to dispel this illusion. Arcane daemons are not excessively muscular, so they might seem as if they are easy to defeat, despite their fearsome appearance. Be not deceived! Their strength comes from magic rather than the physical world. They are extremely intelligent, easily surpassing even the most learned human and use their intelligence in the form of magic in their quest to acquire the gold that adventurers toil for. During battles, the purpose for their tattooed runes becomes apparent; those vile markings often flare up as the daemons cast their spells. Travelers of the swamps and forests beware: the arcane daemon awaits! From a distant grove of trees, a lone archer raises his crossbow, takes slow, careful aim, and with the twitch of a finger, impales danger with a deadly bolt. A skill requiring a steady aim and dexterous fingers, those who live “close to the land” often favor Archery. This skill also counts towards a character's ability to perform Special Moves . Gargoyle characters cannot learn nor use weapons requiring Archery . Training From 0 - 30 skill you should buy from the Warrior Guildmaster. After that you need to hold a bow in hand and hit opponents. For more details on training Archery or other melee skills visit the Melee Training Guide . Weapons There are two main types of weapons available to practitioners of Archery , bows and crossbows. The former require a good supply of Arrows on hand, while the more technical crossbows fire smaller Bolts at enemies. All of these can be crafted by Bowyers . Bows are typically slightly faster to fire then crossbows and also usually offer a larger attacking radius. On the other hand, crossbows often pack more punch per bolt and so might be the better choice for a lengthy battle. The Elven Composite Longbow is the only Archery class weapon that can be used with Poisoning (via Serpent Arrow ). While not technically a weapon, it's worth mentioning that any archer worth his or her salt will be carrying a Quiver with them. All Archery weapons are Two-Handed Weapons , unless they have the Balanced property. For this reason, when crafting with Runic Tools , you might consider the Lightweight Shortbow . Armor

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Contents 1 Armor Slots 2 Armor Inherent Bonuses 2.1 Stamina Loss 2.2 Lower Mana Cost 3 Suit Type 4 Previews 5 See Also Armor is the category of in game items that can be equipped by a character mostly for defensive purposes. It generally has Resistances and other Item Properties used by a character in combat. This distinguishes armor from clothing , which typically does not (there are exceptions, such as a few pieces made by Seers and Event Moderators over the years). Armor Slots Armor can first be categorized in a general sense by what armor slot it takes up on the paperdoll , which denotes what part of the body the armor is associated with. There are seven armor slots available: Helms / Hats & Masks ( Head Slot ) Gorgets / Necklaces ( Neck Slot ) Tunic ( Chest Slot ) Leggings ( Legs Slot ) Shields ( Left Hand Slot ) Sleeves ( Arms Slot ) Gloves ( Hands Slot ) Armor Inherent Bonuses As of Publish 81, armor provides players with inherent bonuses based on the type of armor and the amount of armor that is equipped. This feature replaces the former system that provided Mana phase and SSI debuffs. Stamina Loss Player’s stamina loss is influenced by the type of armor as well as the amount of armor that is equipped. Each piece of armor up to five pieces will reduce the amount of stamina lost when taking damage. The armor pieces which provide the most stamina loss reduction will take priority. Cloth armor, leather armor (leaf, tiger pelt, dragon turtle hide) and jewelry will give the same stamina loss reduction as Pub 80. Blacksmith armor (platemail, ringmail, chainmail, and dragon armor) will provide a heavy bonus to stamina loss reduction. Studded armor, hide armor (not dragon turlte hide), stone armor, bone armor, woodland armor, will provide a light bonus to stamina loss reduction. Lower Mana Cost Each piece of non medable armor provides lower mana cost with the exception of woodland armor. Each piece of armor up to five pieces provides a percentage which can exceed the lower mana cost cap of 40. If a suit has 40 lower mana cost already, then 55 lower mana cost can be achieved when wearing 5 x 3% pieces. The armor pieces which provide the most lower mana cost will take priority. Platemail, ringmail, chainmail, and dragon armor provides 1% of lower mana cost per piece. Studded leather, hide armor (not dragon turtle hide), stone armor and bone armor provides 3% of lower mana cost per piece. Suit Type Some (but not all) types of armor can also be categorized more specifically by theme. Suits may or may not contain components for each equipment slot. For example, Leather Armor comes with a head covering while most other sets do not. Furthermore, some sets contain "alternative" Female Armor components. Note that all types of armor in a given set come with the same basic resists. For example, a Platemail Gorget provides exactly the same level of protection as a Platemail Tunic . Armor that is Exceptionally crafted will receive a bonus that is further boosted by your character's Arms Lore skill, while Runic Tools can be used to send the total resistance level far higher. Some forms of armor are "medable," meaning they do not affect your use of the Meditation skill when worn. Elven armor can only be worn by Elves . The same way, Gargish armor can only be worn by Gargoyles . Arms Lore

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Contents 1 Training 1.1 Active 1.2 Active Use 1.3 Passive 2 History 3 See Also Arms Lore is a skill used in the crafting of certain items and to identify the condition of a weapon. However as to the latter use, any character can determine the same information via the item's tooltip . Professional Title: Warrior Maximum Skill Possible: 100 NPC Trainers: Armorer, Blacksmith, Blacksmith Guildmaster, Weaponsmith, Weapons Trainer, Fighter, Warrior, Mercenary, Paladin, Merchant Guildmaster, and Warrior Guildmaster. Arms Lore was no longer considered a "Useless" skill as of Publish 44 which was released in April of 2007. It now compliments the crafting of armor and weapons in the following ways. Gives a +1% Damage Increase bonus to all exceptionally crafted weapons for every 20 skill points (up to +5% at Grandmaster ), (1% for every 12.5 points ArmsLore, up to +8% at Grandmaster on Shard Siege Perilous). Gives +1% in a random resistance on exceptionally crafted armor for every 20 skill points (up to +5% at Grandmaster), (1% for every 12.5 points of ArmsLore, up to +8% at Grandmaster on Shard Siege Perilous). these bonuses apply to all crafted weapons (metal or wood) and armors (leather, metal, and wood); these bonuses stack, or combine, with properties imparted by Runic Tools . Training Active 0 - 30 : Unlike several skills, there is no accelerated skillgain quest for Arms Lore. Train at an NPC Blacksmith, Armorer, or Warrior Guildmaster 30 - 100 : Activate the skill, see below. It will take roughly 25 hours to reach 100.0 skill. There is a chance to gain every time the skill is used so you do not have to switch your target or move around. Training can be sped up by using a Scroll of Alacrity and/or training while discorded by a Satyr . Active Use To use Arms Lore you can either create a Macro , take out the Skill Gump Icon , or press the blue button next to its name in the Skill Gump . Doing so will bring up a targeting cursor and a system message asking, "What item do you wish to get information about?" One of the easier ways is to set create about 200 daggers , secure them in your house as this will be too many too hold, and using Razor, create a macro using Arms Lore, then target a dagger. After this, right click the "Abosolute Target" in your macro, and select "Target by Type." This will randomly select any of the 200 daggers so long as you remain standing near them. Target the piece of weapon or armor you want to learn about. There are two possible outcomes: Failure - A system message says, "You are not certain..." Success - A system message says, "You study the item in an attempt to learn more about its craftsmanship and use." Passive Arms Lore also may be gained by constructing weapons or armor, but not shields nor ammunition. There are five skills which allow this: Blacksmithing , Tailoring , Carpentry , Tinkering , and Bowcraft . History Arms Lore used to be required in order to preform the Wrestling special moves Stun and Disarm . This requirement was dropped with the Age of Shadows expansion. The following tables show the information Arms Lore used to give when the skill was used to assess in-game items. Artifacts

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Contents 1 Standard Artifacts 2 Artifact Quality Items 3 See also Artifacts are special items with unique names that can be obtained by various means: using the Stealing skill to pilfer them from disparate locales, through specific monster drop systems, during events associated with game-wide fiction, or by crafting them using rare ingredients. Named items obtained from the old Seer Quests were not considered Artifacts when they were being given to players, largely because the term had not yet been invented. The term and concept have not been "retro-fitted" to apply to these older items. The items considered to be the first Artifacts were introduced in the Age of Shadows expansion, in the dungeon Doom , using two methods. First, various items spawned throughout the dungeon that could only be picked up by using the Stealing skill. This was a move by the development team to vindicate the concept of collecting Rares and as a throwback to the way that Rares had originally been created. That is, as items unobtainable to players, that had been used to decorate the environment, but which had been accidentally left unlocked and could be picked up and carried away. The newly stealable items in Doom spawned with the new property Artifact Rarity , which denoted the frequency with which they spawned. The second method by which original Artifacts entered the game was as a group of items that could be obtained in the Doom Gauntlet , as rare drops that went directly into a character's backpack . These too, possessed the Artifact Rarity property, but since these Artifacts spawned in relation to monster slaying, the Artifact Rarity did not always directly correlate to spawn frequency. Many of these type of Artifacts have entered the game, making the Artifact Rarity misleading. When the Paragon system was introduced in 2004, people began calling the named items that dropped "Minor Artifacts" due to the system's similarity to the Gauntlet and the unique names that the items possessed, even though these items did not possess the Artifact Rarity property. This custom was repeated for the Treasures of Tokuno events and later for craftable Artifact quality items introduced with Mondain's Legacy . Artifact quality items were eventually introduced through various in-game events, such as Halloween 2006 and the Ophidian Invasion . Quests also introduced new Artifact quality items, such as the Truth and Redemption quest, which granted The Redeemer as a reward. For UO's 10th anniversary in 2007, a drop system similar to the Paragon system was introduced in the Anti-Virtue Dungeons , which brought with it a new set of Virtue themed artifacts that did possess the Artifact Rarity property. Recent artifacts, like the Stygian Abyss Artifacts and the High Seas Artifacts have reverted to not having the Artifact Rarity property. This is also true for the new Artifact quality dungeon loot system in Covetous , Despise , and select other dungeons. Standard Artifacts Items which possess the Artifact Rarity item property can be classified into several categories. Doom Artifacts - Artifacts that can be found in Doom . These fall into two categories: Items that can be stolen in Doom . Items that drop in the Gauntlet . Tokuno stealables - Artifacts that can be stolen in the Tokuno Islands . Virtue Artifacts - Artifacts that spawn in the eight original Anti-Virtue Dungeons . These were originally introduced as part of the 10th Anniversary festivities and are now a permanent drop system. Stygian Abyss stealables - Artifacts that can be stolen in the Underworld and the Stygian Abyss Dungeon . Wrong stealables - Artifacts that can be stolen in the dungeon Wrong . Artifact Quality Items Artifact quality named items which do not posses the Artifact Rarity property. Ararat Artifacts - Artifacts that drop from the Shadowlords inside the hold of the Ararat . Ararat Stealables - Artifacts that can be stolen next to the Ararat . Champion Spawn Artifacts - Replicas of items copied from Event Moderator events. Covetous Artifacts - Items that drop from Cora the Sorceress and her minions. Blackthorn Artifacts - Items that can be redeemed by turning in Minax artifacts and claiming one. Craftable Artifacts - Craftable items that, due to their high end properties, are considered artifacts. Rare ingredients available only from Peerless monsters are required to craft them. Despise Artifacts - Items that drop from the brothers Adrian the Glorious Lord and Andros the Dread Lord . High Seas Artifacts - Items that drop from High Seas bosses. Ilshenar Minor Artifacts - Items that drop as part of the Paragon system in Ilshenar , several of which are exclusive to this system. Leviathan Minor Artifacts - Items that drop from the Leviathan , a sea monster that is spawned through use of a certain fishing net. These items include those that drop as part of the Paragon system, as well as some which are exlusive to the Leviathan . Mondain's Legacy Minor Artifacts - Items that drop in the same style as those associated with the Paragon system, but only in Mondain's Legacy Dungeons or from Peerless bosses. Other Artifacts - Items, such as The Redeemer , of Artifact quality and which could be acquired as anniversary gifts or by participating in story arcs and other in-game events. Peerless Artifacts - Items that spawn only on the corpses of Peerless bosses. Each Peerless boss spawns specific artifacts. Shadowguard Artifacts - This feature requires the Time of Legends expansion entitlement. This entitlement will be applied for free to all accounts active during August, September, or October 2015. New artifacts can be found in the Valley of Eodon . These artifacts are available as rewards from completing Shadowguard . Stygian Abyss Artifacts - Items that drop in Stygian Abyss Dungeon , Tomb of Kings and Underworld and from Stygian Abyss bosses or Mini-Champ Mini Bosses . Treasure Map Minor Artifacts - Items that drop from Treasure Maps . These items include those that drop as part of the Paragon system, as well as some which are exclusive to Treasure Maps. Treasures of Tokuno Artifacts - Items that dropped or that could be claimed as part of the the Treasures of Tokuno events. At present, the Treasures of Tokuno event is not active. Thus the Artifacts no longer drop as reward. However, Greater Artifacts can still be redeemed by turning in 10 of the Lesser Artifacts to Ihara Soko the Imperial Minister of Trade in the city of Zento . Many Lesser Artifacts are available for sale on most Shards . Greater Artifacts - These artifacts are claimed through a turn in system. Lesser Artifacts - These artifacts dropped in a way similar to those that drop in the Paragon system, and could be turned in for the Greater Artifacts. See also Items

Artifacts (Craftable)

Contents 1 Alchemy 2 Blacksmithy 3 Carpentry 4 Bowcraft & Fletching 5 Inscription 6 Tailoring 7 Tinkering Certain artifacts can be crafted using ingredients obtained from Peerless bosses. These items all require a "major" ingredient, only one of which can be obtained per battle. They require very high levels of skill to create. Tailors and Blacksmiths are advised to use power scrolls (gathered via BODs ) in order to improve their chances. Talismans can also tip the odds in your favour - you'll want as much help as you can get, considering that failure could potentially destroy ingredients worth over hundreds of thousands of gold coins... Aside from Peerless ingredients, Craftable Artifacts sometimes require special resources specific to Mining , Lumberjacking and Fishing (such as gems ), along with more mundane resources . The character who wishes to create the item must have first read the relevant recipe scroll - these are, in some cases, considered more valuable then the items themselves (as they are far rarer then the components). The only exceptions are the Darkwood Armor pieces. Note that Runic Tools cannot be used to further enhance craftable artifacts, and typically cannot be created Exceptionally . Ascension

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Ascension is the title of Chapter VI of the Warriors of Destiny event cycle, characterized thus far (as of January 2009) by the ascent of Casca to the Throne of Britannia. The following UO Herald articles relate to this chapter. In "From Rags to Riches," we learn, vaguely, the whereabouts of Ricardo and Avery : http://www.uoherald.com/news/news.php?newsid=490 "Royal Decree" is the official announcement of Casca's appointment: http://www.uoherald.com/news/news.php?newsid=495 This Chapter featured a unique twist in that the would-be King Casca was played in-game by each Shards Event Moderator . Thus, Casca on each shard had a unique personality and could be interacted with directly by players. Some Cascas appeared snaky and slippery, some "bribed" their new subjects with cake and wine, some managed to win over the skeptical. It was the same for Sherry the Mouse . The name of this Chapter is possibly a reference to Ultima IX: Ascension (see Ultima Prime ). To the extent that this is true, that title may, or may not, prove to be a brutal, savage irony, depending on what happens next. An event to be held the weekend of March 20 to 22, 2009 (as announced by Game Developer Draconi) appears to mark the end of this Chapter.

Avatar

Main · Updated May 15, 2026 16:07
Avatar , as it relates to Ultima Online , refers to 2 distinct things. First, it is a term for the character that the player controls within the game environment. In other words, an Avatar is the graphic that is located within the game window, as opposed to the paperdoll . While this term is not used often in UO , it is more common in other electronic games. The Avatar is also a term deeply embedded in Ultima lore as the stranger that defeated Mondain . He is the embodiment of the Virtues and is said to return one day. Effectively, he is a "Christ Figure" in the Ultima mythology. In the single-player Ultima games upon which UO is based, he was the character under the player's control. Several important NPCs (e.g., Dupre , Katrina , Geoffrey , Iolo , Julia , Gwenno ) were companions of the Avatar in the single-player games. See Also Lore Paperdoll

In the depths of hell, they are generals among hordes of daemons that know only war. In Britannia, they are nigh on unstoppable. With mighty hell-forged blades and life draining magical powers, perhaps the only thing Balrons do not possess is subtlety. When you stand nine feet tall and wield an eight-foot blade of hell forged steel, who needs subtlety? Though in the original single-player games upon which UO is based Balrons were "uber"-bosses, in UO not so much.
